LDT501 M3: Assignment - Your Definition of Learning / Instructional Design & Technology
- What is your personal definition of learning design?
- How does technology play a central role?
- What key phrases or words in your definition are absolutely critical for someone else to understand your approach to teaching/training with technology?
- What does each keyword or phrase mean to you?
- How do the readings that were provided in this module connect to
your definition?
Because my current job is highly technical, using many diverse technical fields, perhaps my own personal definition of learning design is different than others.
My personal definition of learning design is the process of creating engaging and effective learning experiences that align with the need of the learner and the goal of the organization. It involves identifying the learning objectives, selecting the appropriate content and instructional strategies, and using technology to enhance the learning experience.
Technology plays a central role in learning design because it enables the creation of interactive and multimedia-rich learning experiences, provides access to a vast array of resources and information, and allows for the delivery of learning in various formats such as online, blended, and mobile.
Key phrases in my definition that are critical for someone else to understand my approach to teaching/training with technology are: "engaging and effective," "align with the need of the learner and the goal of the organization," "interactive and multimedia-rich," "access to a vast array of resources and information," and "delivery of learning in various formats."
To me, "engaging and effective" means that the learning experiences are designed to be both interesting and relevant to the learner, and that they are able to achieve the intended learning outcomes. "Align with the need of the learner and the goal of the organization" means that the learning design takes into consideration the specific needs of the learner as well as the objectives of the organization in terms of what the learner need to know or be able to do. "Interactive and multimedia-rich" means that the learning experiences include a variety of interactive elements and multimedia, such as videos, images, and simulations, to enhance the learners' engagement and understanding. "Access to a vast array of resources and information" means that the technology used in the learning design provides the learner with access to a wide range of resources and information that can be used to support their learning. "Delivery of learning in various formats" means that the technology enables the learning experiences to be delivered in various formats, such as online, blended, and mobile, to meet the diverse needs of the learner.
The readings provided in this module connect to my definition in that they discuss the importance of aligning the learning design with the need of the learner with the goal of the organization, the use of technology to enhance the learning experience, and the need to consider the different ways in which technology can be used to deliver learning. The readings also highlight the importance of creating interactive and multimedia-rich learning experiences, and the need to consider the accessibility of the technology and resources used in the learning design.
"Now, select a picture, image, or infographic that provides a visual representation or metaphor that embodies your definition of learning design. You can find a picture online, design an image or infographic, or you can take a photograph, but you must be sure to credit the source of your image, be creative! Add an explanation of how the image you selected symbolizes or expresses your definition of learning design to your Reflection; make sure you make a direct, clear connection between your visual element and your definition. "
These different networks are images that could symbolize the definition of learning design with regards to technology and computer networks. This diagram of a computer network with different nodes connected to each other represent the various components of the learning design, such as the content, instructional strategies, and technology. The connections between the nodes represent how these components are connected and interact with each other to create a cohesive and effective learning experience.
In this metaphor, the nodes in the network represents the different elements of the learning design, such as the content, instructional strategies, and technology. The connections between the nodes represent the alignment of these elements with the needs of the learners and the goals of the organization. Each node is connected to a central hub that represents the overall objective of the learning design. The hub is connected to various other nodes that represent the different components of the learning experience, such as multimedia, interactive activities, and assessments.
The computer network, just like learning design, is designed to ensure that the different components of the learning experience are working together to achieve the overall objective. The network is able to adapt and evolve as needed to meet the changing needs of the learners and the organization. Just like how the learning design should be able to adapt to the changing needs of the learner and the organization.
