  Unit 2 Review Windi Bishop. First graders are having problem sounding out words.  Phonemes, causing problems with reading.   Great application, as I read through it I reflected on a similar process my typing class had to go through.  It was the toughest thing in the world to not spell out the word as you type.  The minute we stopped spelling the words and started saying the words as we typed them, our WPM (Words per minute) jumped from 20-30 to 50-60.  Odd how the simple fact of spelling holds you back, but it could have been the manual typewriter as well.  Only a couple people in the class got to use the Brand new electric typewriters.      In lieu of removing recess time or taking it away in general, if the behavior does not improve, what are ways teachers can give punishments to students in ways it won't harm their developmental progress at school?   That is a great question, but I grew up in the era, when our shop teacher had a 4 foot paddle with holes drilled in it.  The punishment was to grab hold of your ankles and wait for the requisite number of whacks.  I remember regularly grabbing my ankles in line to wait for my punishment.  Mom and Dad didn't have the fancy paddle, but mom tended more towards the pancake spatula and dad the willow branch.  I think I turned out okay.  But it's probably one of the reasons I'm not a teacher.  I don't see any harm in warming up the rear of a miscreant younger student.  "Spare the Rod and spoil the Child."    Instructional Problem: Students are having problems discerning the difference between an internal routing protocol using a subnet mask to apply bounds around a computer network.  Understanding a mask size can determine the size of the network and allows either more or less computers to communicate within that network.  It really comes down to a binary to decimal conversion to create a size and should really be memorized, in order to be an effective method of designing computer networks.  A network with a mask of /29 is twice the size of /30.  A mask of /28 is twice the size of a /29. Application of featured Learning Theories / Strategies: Converting a /32 into a ipv4 mask is as simple as 4 octets of 255.  or 2^8 4 times.    Instructional Challenge Many Customers do not understand the reasons why it is not a good idea to hide their Wireless SSID (Service Set Identifier).  The challenge is to provide them with an analogy or real world example of how it behaves and why hiding it is not a good idea.  The miss-conception is that hiding it makes it tougher to find and is thus more secure.  When in reality the security is applied with a different mechanism and hiding the network only makes the network perform worse.   Application   A case based scenario would help illuminate the concept of what actually happens when a network is hidden versus how that impacts security.  Have the customer or sales person develop a narrative to engage learners in a discussion to provide examples of what happens when a SSID is hidden versus what happens when a SSID is visible.  Also, explain when security is applied to to the traffic and the job of security and its role in protection o...

 EDT 502 Unit 6 What will a LMS look like in 2032? Many aspects of the Learning Management Systems that I have experienced over the last couple years feel really clunky.  I've installed a couple LMS's for a smaller school and for my wife to practice different aspects of her job as an instructional designer at Northern Arizona State University.  Specifically Moodle because it's largely free.  However Moodle doesn't come with many of the pre-installed modules or pre-programed sections for dealing with different aspects of the LMS.  Esentially it's just a large data base with different ways to hook into that database.  Storage of the files and data and redistribution of the files and data through a customizable Web interface.  Saying that, it still feels clunky.  When I ditched my motorolla pager for my first star-tek phone it was leaps and bounds beyond what I could do with the pager, and my move from the Star-tek to a smart phone. ...

 EDT 502 Unit 5 I think Rea's Conversation style in the video was effective in delivery.  You could tell the videographer was very professional, from his transitions to effective use of fades and synchronize between video and audio. Although the monotone of Rea was a little hard to get into what he was presenting, he actually had quite a bit of dry humor in his monologue, which was funny when you took a minute to process what he was saying.  The content wasn't really speaking to me, having been a cook for many years, and today, I actually just got back from Greece where I had Chicken gyro / Tzatziki sauce nearly every day.  EDT 502 Unit 2 Overview: So, I have a couple things to say about Spacely Sprockets and George "Jetson" having had previous experience with this bunch of Misfits, and although Cogswell's Cogs is a serious Competitor.  Spacely Sprockets is trying to compete and it looks like they have shortened their development cycle in such a way that they haven't had time to train their staff in the new product development cycle.  First off the Product Manager or the Program Manager should be ashamed of themselves for not including a training cycle in the project plan. Secondly although I hate to say anything bad about any employee who works inside of the same company, namely Spacely Sprockets, but George's Son Elroy really should be the individual running the training and the help desk.  His aptitude for technology far exceeds most of the current Staff at our company.  EDT 502 Unit 1 Given that my knowledge about the Origins and evaluation of instructional design is not all that great other than the Readings this week on Rober A. Reiser. I would have to admit that my impressions of the Recommended readings were negative.  The thing that struck me the most was how outdated it was as a reference written in around 1996 and referring to subjects and topics in Media from 1910 to 1980.With a couple minor additions to bring it "Somewhat Current". However, in the last 20 years or so since it was written I've seen so many advances in Technology, so many advances I had hoped had occurred in the educational field.  That's what I'm hoping to see in the following courses.  Knowing History is good, but standing on the shoulders of Giants is better.  If there haven't been many advances in the last 20 years we are doomed.  As for his sojourner into instructional Design it was a little more interesting, perhaps because...

  Evaluation of the instruction for the University of Skaro on how to create a podcast.    This  project was on a very interesting topic.  Creating a lesson for a group of "Champion"  Students that are really thought experts in their field.  On the one hand we had to assume they were the expert on their subject while showing them a remedial subject and "teaching" them how to present their work.  It was a really complex scenario and I'm not sure we did a very good job.   I had some objections to the way our group went about the whole process.  I realize in a group that we have to come to some sort of consensus in order to move forward.  However several of the other students in my group were strong minded and very motivated.  I had objectives and ways I wanted to work on in the project and they had ways they wanted to work on the project, and they really didn't always align.  I guess that is true of real life and work life a...
