I think Rea's Conversation style in the video was effective in delivery. You could tell the videographer was very professional, from his transitions to effective use of fades and synchronize between video and audio. Although the monotone of Rea was a little hard to get into what he was presenting, he actually had quite a bit of dry humor in his monologue, which was funny when you took a minute to process what he was saying. The content wasn't really speaking to me, having been a cook for many years, and today, I actually just got back from Greece where I had Chicken gyro / Tzatziki sauce nearly every day. Although I think most people that are not familiar with preparing Mediterranean food would perhaps have a different perspective. His media presentation was excellent. Speeding things up, slowing things down and making the flow of the video and audio fit what he was trying to teach, he had very good editing and control of his media. As a future educator having the control of my tools for a presentation in this fashion would be a really great skill.
Not having any graphic arts experience at all, I was completely
lost with Scott’s presentation. I don't feel his video was very
effective at delivering the information. He moved from screen to screen
and topic to topic as if he assumed the leaner knew as much about the
topic as he obviously did. He had a really good presentation style, but
the topic was too advanced for me. The issue I have with these types of
techniques is the software. Unless I’m using the exact same software
and exact same version, many times the feature I’m trying to replicate
is in a different spot or called something different. In the past I’ve
spent many hours trying to replicate something using a graphic program
following directions I’ve found on line for a particular program and
eventually give up trying to follow directions. Although Scott's
presentation is good, I’m not sure a point and click, and follow along
on your own is the best method for teaching a subject like this. I’m
not sure what is the best method, but I personally have not good
experiences trying to follow these types of presentations. That aside,
Scott did know his subject well and presented it well. Almost too well,
he tended to move to quick and I could not keep up. What I really
learned from Scott's tutorial was as an example of how I don't want to
present to my learners.
